Viewing Beyond the Narrative Content: Young Children Discuss a Popular DVD Text

Abstract

This study argues that visual literacy is a necessary component of critical literacy and opportunities to begin developing both these literacies can occur when a mentor engages young children in discussion during viewings of DVD text from the children’s own popular culture.
