Abstract

The history of design as embraced in specialist undergraduate, postgraduate and research studies, has had a comparatively short academic life in Britain (no more than 26 years). In general, I believe that it has developed positively in terms of acknowledgement of its importance as a discipline in its own right, one which is significant in the context of design practice and other fields of enquiry where the meaning and texture of everyday life is examined and interpreted.
