Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • This submission relates to the upcoming issue's theme
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • I am a current or recent postgraduate student at AUT.

Author Guidelines

Research articles: Original research, such as articles based on completed or ongoing postgraduate theses and/or dissertations. Word limit up to 5000 words excluding references, tables and images.

Reviews: Reviews of publications, resources, media of relevance to a diversity of disciplines are welcomed. Shorter pieces are encouraged up to a max. word limit of 3000 words.

Short pieces: Extended abstracts, reports or summaries on research findings including case studies, critical analyses of topical issues. Word limit 2000 words.

Commentary: Submitted or invited commentaries on matters of relevance to AUT postgraduate research. Word limit 1000 words.

Creative work: poetry, prose and other creative work is welcome. Word limit flexible.

Structure

Abstracts: Research articles, reviews and short reports must be submitted with an abstract. For research articles please use the following headings: Introduction, Methods, Results/Discussion, Conclusion. Abstracts for reviews may be unstructured. Word limit 250 words.

Keywords: Please provide four keywords after the abstract. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.

 

Page Layout and font:
A4 Portrait, Margins 3cm Left and Right; 2.5cm Top and Bottom, Font: Arial or Calibri, 12 point, 1.5 spacing.

Headings and subheadings:
Please follow abstract guidelines (Introduction, Methods, Results/Discussion, Conclusion) for article headings. Divide your article into clearly defined sections. 

Figures
Figures are to be placed in the body of the article with clear captions. A caption should comprise a brief title (not on the figure itself) and a description of the illustration. Keep text in the illustrations themselves to a minimum but explain all symbols and abbreviations used. Equations should be presented as figures with appropriate captions. Permission must be obtained for any third party copyrighted figures or images.

Abbreviations:
Write out abbreviations in full the first time it appears in the article.

Acknowledgements:

Collate acknowledgements in a separate section at the end of the article before the references. Acknowledgments can be made for those who have assisted in the preparation of the article or at any staege during the research that was integral in ensuring the article was ready for publication. 

Citations and Reference list:
Please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa). References should follow APA 7th referencing style. For questions on references and style, consult the following APA guide at AUT University in the first instance:
