Vol. 1 No. 1 (2025): Pacific media challenges and futures

Pacific media conference women on PM cover

Edition editors: Shailendra Singh and Amit Sarwal

The Pacific region is witnessing unprecedented shifts and challenges in its small and micro media systems due to various forces embedded in governance and political instability; the impact of intense geostrategic competition, primarily between China and the United States; challenges associated with climate change and environmental degradation; and serious issues in the health sector. These trends have compounded the situation in a region that has struggled to achieve sufficient and sustained levels of development for its people’s needs. This inaugural edition of Pacific Media, which succeeds Pacific Journalism Review, brings together a collection of some of the papers from the Pacific Media International Conference in Suva, Fiji, during July 2024 charting challenges and futures in regional media research.

This edition is published as a partnership  between Asia Pacific Media Network (APMN) and The University of the South Pacific Journalism Programme (USP).
