Resumo

Esta exegese considera um projeto de pesquisa orientado pela prática que aborda a importância de lembrar as histórias locais por meio de uma exploração da Great South Road. O projeto tem como objetivo utilizar o design de publicação interativa para comunicar visualmente os eventos amplamente desconhecidos que ocorreram no período que envolveu a construção da Great South Road em Aotearoa e sua importância na eventual invasão de Waikato pelas forças da Coroa. A metodologia envolvida nesta pesquisa consistiu em uma abordagem historiográfica aliada à heurística, empregando métodos como pesquisa histórica e de arquivos, trabalho de campo e revisão da literatura. A estética visual do sistema de design baseia-se em um layout experimental e na aplicação de texturas desgastadas e desgastadas pelo tempo para comunicar e emular uma estética histórica de tempo de guerra. A publicação inclui elementos interativos na forma de fotografias e documentos de arquivo inseridos para promover um envolvimento mais profundo, bem como recursos de refotografia. O objetivo geral da pesquisa e seu resultado é abordar o desconhecimento da difícil história de Aotearoa entre muitos neozelandeses e lançar luz sobre as repercussões duradouras dos eventos de colonização em nossa sociedade atual.

Criada no Reino Unido e agora residente permanente em Aotearoa, Madelaine Janiga-Warren é formada em Design de Comunicação e está interessada em explorar como o design pode ajudar a aumentar a conscientização sobre as responsabilidades culturais e ambientais. Ela gosta de experimentar e implementar a impressão e a criação de imagens juntamente com material histórico e design de publicações interativas.
